6-Day Uganda Chimpanzee & Gorilla Safari Trekking

Transfer to Kampala

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a professional safari guide from Africa Gorilla Encounter Limited. After a short welcome briefing, you will be transferred to your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala for rest and acclimatization.

If time allows, you may enjoy optional excursions such as visiting the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, birdwatching along Lake Victoria, or a sunset stroll. Your evening is spent relaxing as you prepare for your primate safari adventure.

Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park – Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary Tour

After breakfast, your Africa Gorilla Encounter Limited guide will drive you to western Uganda—an engaging 5–6-hour journey passing through beautiful tea plantations, volcanic hills, and rural farmland. The scenery along this route is among the most picturesque in Uganda.

Arrive in Kibale Forest National Park, often referred to as the “Primate Capital of the World” for hosting over 13 primate species. After lunch at your lodge, enjoy an afternoon excursion to the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-run project known for primates, butterflies, and rich birdlife including the Great Blue Turaco. This is an excellent warm-up for the following day’s chimpanzee encounters.

Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Start the day with an early breakfast and transfer to the Kanyanchu Visitor Center for a briefing before your chimpanzee trekking adventure. Led by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers, you will walk through Kibale’s lush rainforest in search of its habituated chimpanzee communities.

Kibale boasts one of the highest chimp sighting rates in East Africa. Once found, you will spend an unforgettable hour observing the chimpanzees as they feed, play, vocalize, and leap through the canopy—a highlight of any Chimpanzee Safari.

After lunch, enjoy a scenic 2–3-hour drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s iconic savannah parks. Enjoy an evening relaxation at your lodge with views of the Rwenzori Mountains.

Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via Ishasha Sector

Begin your morning with a game drive through the Ishasha Sector, famous for its unique tree-climbing lions—a rare phenomenon found in only a handful of African regions. Keep your camera ready as these lions often lounge in huge fig trees, offering breathtaking safari photography opportunities.

Continue your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to nearly half of the surviving mountain gorilla population. The drive takes 3–5 hours through forests, farmlands, and charming traditional villages.

Settle into your lodge set within or near the mist-covered jungle and prepare for the following day’s Uganda Gorilla Trekking experience.

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – Batwa Cultural Experience

After an early breakfast, transfer to the Bwindi Park Headquarters for a detailed briefing about gorilla trekking rules and safety. With experienced rangers and trackers, you will begin your trek through thick vegetation, steep terrain, and cool montane forest in search of your allocated gorilla family.

Depending on the gorillas’ movement, trekking may last 2–8 hours. Once found, you are allowed one hour to observe and photograph these gentle giants. Witnessing a silverback, mothers nursing their infants, and playful juveniles is a breathtaking experience that defines Uganda Gorilla Safaris.

After the trek, receive your certificate and return for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a Batwa Cultural Experience, gaining insight into the traditions of Bwindi’s indigenous forest people.

Return to Entebbe – Departure

After breakfast, begin your return drive to Entebbe, a 7–8-hour scenic journey through Mbarara town, with a lunch stop and a visit to the Uganda Equator Line for photography and souvenirs.

Your driver will later drop you at Entebbe International Airport, marking the end of your 6-day Uganda Primate Safari with Africa Gorilla Encounter Limited.
